Last Of Three Arrested In Brutal Beatings
The last of a Far Rockaway trio wanted for a series of robberies has been arrested and arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on assault and robbery charges stemming from two separate alleged incidents in which he beat and robbed the victims just minutes apart on the same night in mid-March.
According to court papers, Bryant Mercado, 19, and previously arrested suspects, Jeffery Morel and Andy Carvajal, approached a male victim near Beach 22 Street and New Haven Avenue on March 15, at around 8 p.m., and allegedly hit him with a bat before reaching into his pockets to steal his cell phone.
Minutes later they allegedly used the same tactic less than a block away near Brookhaven Avenue and Beach 22 Street when they approached the victim who was inside his car.
The group of robbers smashed the bat against the hood and windshield of the car while the victim was dragged out of the driver’s seat, beaten and robbed of his cell phone and a ring he was wearing, according to court papers.
The victim of the car robbery was sent to Jamaica Hospital after suffering facial fractures that required his jaw to be wired shut.
The Mott Avenue resident, Mercado, was charged with seven counts of robbery, assault and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $10,000.
