Ironworkers Recruit Apprentices

The Metallic Lathers and Reinforcing Ironworkers, Local Union #46 Joint Apprenticeship Committee, will conduct a recruitment through May 11, 2012 for 50 lather (wood, wire, and metal) apprentices. Applications can be obtained at the Metal Lathers Local Union #46, 61-02 32nd Avenue, Woodside, NY 11377, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Applications must be accepted during the recruitment period or until 500 applications have been issued, whichever comes first. All applications must be received by Certified Mail at the above address. The Committee requires that applicants be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D). The applicant also must be physically able to perform the work as determined by the applicant’s statement.

Applicants must sign an affidavit of physical fitness stating the ability to do the work, which includes wearing a safety belt that weighs 25-50 pounds for a full day, carrying steel rods that weigh between 50-100 pounds for a full day.

Once an applicant is accepted into the program, they must submit to drug screening and take an aptitude test administered by the New York State Department of Labor. The Committee recommends that applicants have a driver’s license, but is not a requirement.
