Good Stuff

Commentary By Brian Wolfe

How do you feel? I hope ‘good.’ If you have been doing the little things that I have been writing about, you feel good for sure!! If you feel good the people around you feel it too, you’re making them feel good. If anyone you know has started doing what you have been doing then you’re building a community. Working together and accomplishing goals with someone else is perhaps the most rewarding thing people can do together.

Exercise, wellness, and community go together hand in hand. You will fill up the feel good bank really quickly if you become a part of a community. A group of similar minded individuals will accomplish things at a greater pace. The results will be better with different personalities pushing each other to positive goals.

I’m blessed to see this every day at our facility. The push comes from everywhere. Friendships are forged through hard work accomplished together. GOOD MAKES GOOD! Says it all. If you’re feeling good you have to be telling people. Spread the wealth.

I’m not forgetting you first time readers. Summer is coming, the weather has made a change and it will soon be beach weather before we know it. Start moving now instead of later. Need help?? Join a community ... a community that exercises together.

So what are you people who already started working out doing now? In Rockaway there are a few options to train together. There are martial art studios, dance studios, Cyberzone gym, boot camp (home body fitness) and fitness studios like our very own ROCKAWAY FITNESS. We offer a family type atmosphere; so much so that everyone knows I have a “Work Wife.”

When fitness first started receiving attention in the early 1930s, it began with pioneers who learned early that they could feed off each other. This began a movement on the west coast and camaraderie started. That style still exists today when people train together. In this atmosphere you will work out together, but still work on individual goals.

This brings us to another movement, the seniors. When I say senior I don’t mean a 60-year-old, I mean 70- or 80- year-olds. Seniors are going strong. I think they should be involved in this fitness community we are talking about.

Studies have shown that muscle mass improves with regular exercise well into someone’s 80s. If we lose muscle every year after the age of 30, as studies suggest, we can reverse the aging process by just working hard. That’s GOOD STUFF! Rockaway Fitness is going to very soon introduce classes just for the seniors. Staying active is a key ingredient in staying young. ‘The better you move the better you live’ is so true.

What I notice most about these training atmospheres is that people help each other just by being there together. “If he (or she) can do it, I can.” They are helping each other without even realizing it.

Well, good work everyone who is doing IT. And let’s get going, all you newbies. Go out for a walk, go for a bike ride. Start today and be part of the movement. The ‘feel good’ movement. NOW that’s good stuff!
