Joel Garyn’s Golf Tip Of The Week: Hip Power
Fellow Golfers: Each week there will be mini lesson thoughts that you should try out and hopefully help you improve your game as you try to make each one a permanent part of your swing:
This week is dedicated to talking about hip power.
You’ll generate a lot of power if you forget about building up the muscles in your body and concentrate instead on whipping the hips.
Look at Gary Player. He is only five feet seven inches tall but he hits the ball a long way by moving his hips as fast as possible from right to left in the downswing.
But not so fast that he loses control of the swing. The idea is to have the hips moving to the left, where they’ll open naturally. If you keep your head behind the ball through impact, you’ll forma sort of human catapult that will send your ball soaring. For righthanders keep your left eye on the back of the ball and for left-handers, keep your right eye on the back of the ball!.
