Enterprise Shuttles To JFK Via Rockaway

All eyes were skyward on Friday, April 27 as the space shuttle Enterprise, carried by a NASA jumbo jet, circled Rockaway before landing at John F. Kennedy Airport across Jamaica Bay from the peninsula. Several locals sent photos to The Wave chronicling the last flight of the shuttle. After its landing, it was stationed on a runway right across the bay from the Joseph P. Addabbo Bridge and many Rockaway residents took photos from that spot. Next month, the shuttle, riding on a barge, will be towed from the airport, under both the Cross Bay and Marine Parkway Bridges, around Breezy Point and then to the Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum on the west side of Manhattan, where it will become a permanent exhibit. This photo was taken by Bayswater resident Laura Deckelman.
