RCA Gets Parks Grant, Free Trees

The Rockaway Civic Association, formerly known as the Rockaway Park Homeowners and Residents Association, receives a $2,500 Parks Department grant towards planned Summer Film Series.

The Rockaway Civic Association (RCA) met for its second general membership meeting of the year on Tuesday, April 17.

The meeting was highlighted by a visit from the First Deputy Commissioner of the NYC Parks Department, Liam Kavanagh. Together with local Parks Depart- ment Administrator Jill Weber, he presented a Grant Award in the amount of $2,500 to Rockaway Civic Association President Noreen Ellis. The award will be used towards a planned Summer Film Series to be scheduled over the coming months. Ellis noted the efforts involved in working with local businesses towards the goal of making an annual film series possible.

The meeting concluded with a reminder to the membership and public of the Free Tree Giveaway being sponsored by the civic in conjunction with the New York Restoration Project and Million Trees NYC. The Free Tree Giveaway is scheduled for Saturday, April 28 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club.
