Melissa Tynan, of the 3rd Platoon, was presented with an award for meritorious police duty by (left to right) Queens borough commander, Assistant Chief James Secreto, 101 Precinct Commanding Officer Michael Lipetri and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. The top cop in the city was a special addition this year as the 101 Precinct held its annual Medal Day ceremony on April 26. He joined the precinct’s commanding officer and the borough commander in handing out awards to officers who have shown extraordinary accomplishments during the past year.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, borough commander Assistant Chief James Secreto and commanding officer Deputy Inspector Michael Lipetri handed out approximately 70 awards to officers of the 101 Precinct.

Kelly praised the work done at the precinct, pointing out that crime has decreased in the 101 over the last decade by 45 percent, and arrests over the last year are up.

For many it was a family event. For many it was a family event. “I want to congratulate you and the good work that this command does – and Deputy Inspector Lipetri and his leadership – specifically those who will be honored this evening.” said Kelly.

Those honorees included Cop of the Year, Officer Anthony Rivelli, and Officer Joseph Arbia, who on December 31 shot and killed an armed suspect who was robbing a pharmacy near his home in Seaford, L.I. The 101 Precinct Community Council was also recognized for its work.

The 101 Precinct is the only precinct in the city that recognizes the work of its officers with an annual medal day ceremony.
