Bernard T. ‘Bernie’ O’Brien, a former Rockaway resident, died April 25.

O’ Brien was born in New York City and was a longtime Rockaway resident prior to re-locating to Merritt Island, Florida in 1992. He worked at Con Edison for 40 years and prior to that was a decorated Korean War veteran. He was a past Grand Knight of Rockaway Beach Council Knights of Columbus and later worked for several security firms in Port Canaveral, Florida providing security for Disney Cruise Ships.

O’Brien was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine.

He is survived by his sons, James (Beth), John (Eileen) and Thomas (Martha) O’Brien; daughter, Mary O’Sullivan (Shaun); sister, Sr. Mary O’Brien; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday, April 30, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and again on Tuesday, May 1, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, May 2, at 9:45 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, Rockaway Beach. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
