Not Practicable

Dear Editor,

I would like to respond to a suggestion sent in by Bernie Feuer a few weeks ago.

He suggested that hookers pay taxes. For that to happen prostitution would have to first be legal in New York State. It is a good idea, Mr. Feuer, but not practical. Also, when I tried to obtain my medical records from Peninsula Hospital last week, I was informed that it would cost me .75 per copy. Most Rockaway residents cannot afford that. I commend the Mayor for sitting down with a Rockaway youth and hearing him out about the stop and frisk policies. The mayor rightfully defended the policy. Let us talk about the subject that no one wants to address. Most crimes in the Rockaways are committed by black or Hispanic youth. Not a racist statement but the truth. As Howard Schwach has stated in this publication: the truth cannot be racist. Yes, I can imagine how annoying being stopped and frisked when you are doing nothing wrong is. But what is the other option? Search no one and have homicides triple in Rockaway? I have been stopped while being in the wrong part of town, the east end (I am a white male.) I didn’t like it, but knew if I opened my mouth and got wise with the police it would have ended up worse for me. I dealt with it, let myself be searched and answered questions. I was on my way in 5 minutes. Let’s stop this A.C.L.U nonsense and come up with a plan that can please both ends of the stop and frisk issue.

JOHN BRENNI
