Hayden Signoretti Appearing At TriBeCa
The TriBeCa Film Festival has a line-up that redefines the experience of going to the movies. Screenings featuring independent full-length films, short films, documentaries, and a series of other categories – have provided a prominent venue for independent artists to share their work with the general public in New York City. And at only nine-years-of-age, Hayden Signoretti is among the small number of young actors featured this year at the TriBeCa, in the short film, “Teacher of the Year.”
Directed by Chris Modoono, “Teacher of the Year” is about an elementary school teacher named Ethan Collins, who is foul-mouthed and is in a constant battle with himself after his wife leaves him. One of his students, played by Signoretti, helps remind Collins that the children in the classroom don’t always pick up on his quirky behavior and teaching methods. But when they do, they prefer to be on the sidelines and let the adults have a whack at each other.
Any casting director will admit that finding the right child actor is a challenge. Signoretti had his start at the Rockaway Theatre Company, where he was able to express his love for being on the stage and acting. The first break in his acting career came when he appeared in a Mariah Carey video. And from there, Hayden and his mother, Noni
Signoretti, consider themselves fortunate to be involved in “Teacher of the Year.” Signoretti will be seeing his film for the first time this weekend, and the experience is likely to bring back memories of how hard he had to prepare for the role last summer.
“Acting is very hard work that requires a lot of dedication,” Mrs. Signoretti wrote. It takes a lot of patience memorizing lines and getting a chance to see the final result of one’s work – and for child actors, the responsibility is often shared with their parents.
At nine years old and in the fourth grade, Signoretti sees himself acting without an expiration date. He even has a desire to direct and produce his own films. As one local supporter of artists has said, “It is always a pleasure to see young visionaries continue to do what they love to do.”
“Teacher of the Year” also features Saturday Night Live’s Rachel Dratch and the film’s co-writer, Gil Zabarsky, as Ethan Collins. The short will be screened from Saturday, April 21 to Sunday, April 29.
