This past weekend, Mike Cassidy and his family joined with Jamaica Bay Guardians Don Riepe and Elizabeth Manclarke to remove debris from a shoreline along the edge of Jamaica Bay. Together they hauled out over 500 pounds of debris that was impacting a marsh site. “This was a great experience for my kids,“ said Cassidy. “I want them to grow up with an appreciation for the bay environment.” On Saturday, April 21, the American Littoral Society is sponsoring a debris removal cleanup at Dubos Point in Arverne, Far Rockaway from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The meeting place is Beach 65 Street and Bayfield Avenue on Jamaica Bay. Bring boots and gloves. On Saturday, April 22, the society will clean a shoreline at Floyd Bennett Field with Gateway NRA. For more information contact the American Littoral Society at 718-318-9344; e-mail: donriepe@gmail.com
