Charity Football Game Honors Departed Firefighter
The Danny Suhr Bowl, a charity football game which honors the New York City Fire Department firefighter who perished in the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, will take place on Saturday, April 21.
The Suhr Bowl will involve his former FDNY Bravest Football Club, who will take on the Brooklyn Mariners semipro team at 1 p.m. at Kings Bay Field on 2670 Coyle Street between Voorhies Avenue and Avenue Z in Brooklyn.Tickets are priced at $10 and children will be admitted free. A 50-50 raffle will be held.
Suhr was a Rockaway native who played linebacker and captained the FDNY team from 1985 to 1997. Suhr was also a team captain and linebacker for the highly regarded Brooklyn Mariners, a semi-pro team.
All proceeds will be donated to the Danny Suhr Scholarship Fund. The fund was established to help students who would like to play football at a private high school.
There will be an after party held at the Mariner’s Inn at 3501 Avenue S at 4 p.m. Half of the receipts raised at the bar will be donated to the Suhr Scholarship Fund.
FDNY Honors Schroeter
The FDNY Bravest Football Club will take on the Washington D.C. Generals tonight at 6 p.m.
This game will benefit the family of Michael Schroeter who was killed in the beginning of February in a skiing accident. Mike left behind a wife and a 2-year-old son. Mike was a member of FDNY Engine 97 and the Bravest Football Club.
The game will be held at Mitchel Athletic Field in Uniondale (1 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard). There will be a short ceremony prior to kickoff to honor Mike and his family. Half the proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the Schroeter Family. See team members for tickets or purchase at the gate starting at 5:00 p.m. game day.
