Where Are The Guard Rails?

Dear Editor,

In the June 24, 2011 issue of The Wave, there was an article about the guardrail funding that was approved by the New York City Council for the roadway through the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, between Broad Channel and the Joseph P. Addabbo Bridge.

As of today, there are no guard rails. There have been many accidents since. Recently, there was one on February 26, and another on March 10, 2012.

The Department of Transportation reduced lanes to try to slow traffic. How did that work out for you?

We in the community need to take immediate action and be proactive about this situation before there are more memorials on this deadly path. If you are reading this letter, call your local representative to express your concerns.
