What Do We Want?
We want the State Health Department to complete an inspection of the Peninsula lab and any other necessary parts of the hospital, post the results online and give a reasonable time for corrections if necessary.
We want the State Health Department to post the standards they use to determine if potential hospital management is qualified. We want them to review the credentials of the four or five potential buyers now.
We want the local hospital Board of Directors to expand to have members who regularly visit all parts of the hospital, question employees, patients and families and read all financial statements and reports issued by the hospital management.
We want Assemblywoman Michele Titus and Congressman Gregory Meeks, who have not shown up to support the hospital, to meet with their constituents this week when the Congress and State Legislature are not in session.
We want the real Local 1199 to stand up and fight for the hospital and the jobs of their members. This is the union that the Rev. Martin Luther King said was his favorite union. This is the union that Leon Davis and Dennis Rivera led to bring a living wage to tens of thousands of hospital workers and lent their facilities and members in support of social justice for decades. We want 1199 to use its influence in Albany to save the hospital, not to close it.
We want Governor Andrew Cuomo to stand up for the people of his native Queens.
We want a governor who doesn’t insult us by giving us a bridge, but closes our hospital.
When do we want it? Now.
