Turner Lauds CBB Toll Rebate
Congressman Bob Turner applauded the passage of the New York State budget with the inclusion of a provision providing full funding for the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge Toll rebate for the upcoming year.
“This is a tremendous victory for residents of the Rockaways and Broad Channel. As a resident of the area myself, I am thrilled that the message my neighbors and I worked so hard to send was heard loud and clear by Governor Cuomo and the MTA,” Turner said.
Turner has been speaking against the toll since last year. He called MTA Chairman Joe Lhota, wrote a letter to Governor Cuomo, and stood with Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder and other community leaders at a press conference commending Gov. Cuomo for including the resident toll rebate in his proposed budget.
“I would like to thank MTA Chairman Lhota, Governor Cuomo, and other local community leaders for joining me in the fight to admonish and eradicate this unfair tax on local residents,” Turner said. “While I hope to see this toll phased out completely, this is a terrific step in the right direction.”
Now that the provision has been approved, Turner is calling on the MTA to implement the rebate expeditiously, as residents of the Rockaways and Broad Channel have been digging deeper into their pockets long enough.
“I urge Chairman Lhota and the MTA to put this rebate into effect as quickly as possible,” Turner said. “The provision has been approved in the budget, now it’s time to carry it out.”
