Rockaway Teen Challenge Presents Chess, Basketball Tournaments


NY’s Finest also took part in their participation at the Rockaway Teen Challenge held at Peninsula Preparatory Academy. The quest for the gold continues as some fierce competition heats up in the Rockaway Teen Challenge 19 and Under Basketball Medaling Tournament.

Teams of youth from all over the peninsula are matching court skills. Da Bizness is coached by Raygan Plummer; Team Mack is coached by Joe “Mack” Williams, a three-time Daily News Golden Gloves winner; Hammels is being coached by Dwight Jones; Isaac Parsee is the man behind Team Deuce; Hood2Hood is being coached by Prince Brown; James McGhaney is the Coach Mentor for PAL’s Goldie Maple Academy team; and Manny Fiallo and Shawn Kimble are the coaching team for Team Redfern.

Players are experiencing safe recreation and life altering workshops that include presentations by Queens Library, Council for Unity, Pastor Nesly Jean-Baptiste, and Jacques Leandre, Esq. Games are being played on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Peninsula Preparatory Academy on 111-11 Rockaway Beach Boulevard. There’s plenty of room for spectators, so, please come support our youth!

Youth from the “Battle of the Libraries,” NYCHA recreational centers, PAL, Child Center NY, Safe Space, and 100 Precinct Youth Council will match wits for the gold.
