Frank George, 90, a longtime Broad Channel resident, died March 12.
George was born in Rockaway Beach on October 23, 1921. He was a retired NYPD officer after 28 years of service. George also served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II from 1944 to 1945 at Tinian Island. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and two Presidential citations for his service. George was a member of the Daniel M. O’Connell Post.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Geier George; parents, Julia and Edward George; sister, Elsie Wild.
He is survived by children Frank C., Donna Kase, Richard (Regina), Thomas (Diane), Timothy (Irene) and Rita Conneely (Jack).
He is survived by his 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Edward B. George of East Rockaway, New York; and his sister, Judith Kelley of Boynton Beach, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hillebrand Funeral Home, Broad Channel. A funeral mass took place at St. Virgilius Church, Broad Channel. Interment followed at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
