In Praise Of Rosenberg

Dear Editor,

I want to both compliment and thank reporter Miriam Rosenberg for her honest appraisal regarding Bayswater Civic Association’s experiences with New York City’s Board of Standards and Appeals.

Ms. Rosenberg did the research and reported accurately and honestly, confirming that to go to that Board to oppose a developer’s request for variances is an effort in futility. To quote Ms. Rosenberg: “Using the BSA website I pulled up calendars for the last six months, from September through February. On those calendars were the results of 139 decisions made by the BSA - 134 in favor of developers and only 5 denials.” How sad that a community’s needs are so little considered.

The research also indicates that the City Council should be able to overrule the Board’s decisions when necessary as the Board of Standards and Appeals shows itself to be biased. There ‘oughta’ be a law!
