Historical Views of the Rockaways

A Blast From The Past!...Rockaway Beach Hotels
From The Rockaway Museum by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

Once upon a time, in a Rockaway Beach long, long ago, there were a couple of hundred hotels for summer visitors. Some were gigantic, some were large, some were medium size, some were small, and a few were even smaller, yet they all served a valuable service to the area in the summer.

Today’s Historical Views serves up a few blasts from the past: Hotel ads from 1946, published by the Chamber of Commerce of the Rockaways in the Rockaway Review monthly magazine. As each year goes by, the ranks of those that will remember these old hotels, and other Rockaway history, dwindles! One or two of these buildings is still around though. Can you identify them?
