Monday, April 9, RAA will hold an open town hall type meeting, starting at 7:30 p.m. in sTudio 7 gallery, Fort Tilden. Discussion will center on what RAA has been doing, what is happening right now, and where it is going. Most importantly, RAA wants feedback and suggestions from our membership and our community, which we serve and of which we are a part; the community that helps identify us, define us and nurture us. The RAA board of directors will be there to answer questions, address concerns and solicit input and ideas from our membership and community. This will be the first of such meetings anticipated to inform, to welcome and to refresh and grow this vibrant organization. RAA invites all to come and be a part of this first of its kind Open Meeting.

RAA will offer Beginner Glass Mosaic Classes on Friday, April 20-May 11, 7-9 p.m. in sTudio 7 gallery. Instructor will be accomplished stained glass artist Anne Hourigan. Instruction will include drawing/designing the piece, basic glass cutting and breaking skills and more. Supplies and materials included. Fee is $30 per session for members, $40 for non-members. If interested, call the RAA office: 718-474-0861.

The next RAA Writers Group Event will be Sunday, April 15 at 1 p.m. in sTudio 7 gallery. Original prose works, poetry, short stories, short plays and scenes will be blended with the talents of a variety of musicians singing and playing both original and cover songs. An occasional jig has even been known to spontaneously break out at our Writers Group events. Come join the fun, even if the only thing you ever write is the shopping list.

Calls To Artists: “Checkmate” and “Spring Into Flowers.” “Checkmate” invites artists to draw viewers into the world of drama, symmetry, surprises, majesty, maneuvers, strategy, style, substance and subtlety that is the world of chess. Chessboards, chess pieces, power plays and even fantasy — think “Alice Through the Looking Glass” – associated with the more than 1,000-year-old game. Open to all media including but not limited to glass work, photography, watercolor, printmaking, sculpture, video, cartoon, literary and moveable art.

Deadline for receipt of entries: April 16, 2012. Dates: May 5- June 17, 2012. For full prospectus and entry form: www.rockawayartistsalliance.org.

“Spring Into Flowers” invites artists to … well … spring into flowers. Same deadline and show dates. Antihistamine not required. RAA CONTACT INFO:
