Join Author For Stories Of Rockaway Beach

Vintage photographs of the women who helped pioneer the development of Rockaway are not often seen. Many women were instrumental in establishing local hospitals, churches and schools, or operating hotels, rooming houses and restaurants in Rockaway Beach, dating back to its earliest settlement in the 1850’s. Their stories have rarely been told—until now.

On Tuesday, March 27 at 7:30 p.m., Vivian Rattay Carter, author of the upcoming book, Images of America: Rockaway Beach, to be released by Arcadia Publishing in June, 2012, will offer a peek at many interesting photographs she uncovered in her research, as she tells the stories of “The Forgotten Pioneers: Women of Rockaway Beach.” The event will be held at RSC Restaurant (Rockaway Seafood), 419 Beach 129 Street in Belle Harbor.
