What Community Needs To Know
I was at the Board meeting at the Knights of Columbus on March 13, 2012. I am a registered nurse of Peninsula Hospital that was laid off on March 5, 2012. I have worked there for 28 years and served the community of Rockaway for 28 years.
I am humbled by the concern and compassion of the few board members to the employees of PHC that were laid off, and the employees of PHC, most of us who were there, were extremely grateful. We were there to hear and support our CEO Todd Millerand hear him speak of the progress that is ongoing to expedite the reopening of the Hospital and the things that needed to be done. But we found out that the community, especially most of the board members that were there, was ANGRY. They were angry at the way “THEY THINK” Peninsula is going.
I have worked and been through rough times these past few years, with union struggles, the almost closing of PHC, emptying the hospital for calamities and hurricane and now “reviving a renewed Peninsula Hospital Center.“
The community is ANGRY to the struggles we have been through and they have every right to be. TO MEDISYS, who for the length of their stay ran this hospital to the ground, who with their hatchet CEO Robert Levine orchestrated a 60 million dollar deficit and wanted to CLOSE PHC, who for years bled PHC of funding that was supposed to support the hospital that supports the Rockaways for a better health care system. MEDISYS is the one and ROBERT LEVINE IS THAT CEO!!! YES they have a right to be ANGRY.....but not now, ....because we need their SUPPORT their UNDERSTANDING, their PATIENCE. We need to bring back Peninsula Hospital Center to its glory!
I am inside looking out to all of the people of Rockaway, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT. We need PHC, for without PHC to support the health of the people of the Rockaways, people will DIE. IT IS NOT EASY TO BRING BACK A HOSPITAL THAT WAS DEAD, RESUSCITATED AND BEING WORKED OUT TO BE RENEWED AT THE BEST WAY THE ROCKAWAYAN`S OWE TO HAVE!! Sure Todd Miller has a plan, it may not be clear yet, but it takes time... We have seen it and there’s more coming. Our radiology department is becoming state of the art, we have a brand new Endo suite that is rising, new beds, new ventilators, new ideas, but most of all those “informed” employees believe that we will be better than ever... and we haven’t had that hope for ages! So please... WE ASK YOU TO BE PATIENT, because YOU deserve the BEST! And we are all in this TOGETHER!!
