St. Rose Seventh Grade Advances To Elite 8

The St. Rose of Lima seventh grade boys advanced to the Elite 8 of the CYO playoffs with a well played team performance to beat St. Andrews, 37-34.

As per CYO tradition, things got off to a good start with Robert McGinn saying the prayer.

The teams traded baskets early. St. Rose got a big boost at the end of the first quarter with a buzzer beating 3- pointer by CJ Gallagher. The second quarter saw some great team defense, especially displayed by Matt Schoenfeld. He also converted a rare 4-point play!

The third quarter began with a long 3-pointer by Isaiah Brown to open up a nice lead. This was increased to 12 in the fourth quarter, before St. Andrews chipped the lead away towards the end of the game. The scoring was led by St. Rose‘s Matt Schoenfeld, who had 14 points. Isaiah Brown added 10 points; Thomas Collins contributed 8 points and 14 rebounds; CJ Gallagher with 5 points, and Lavon Montgomery had a big basket late in the game. The team displayed great defense and supported each other. St. Rose will play on Saturday, March 17 at Cathedral Prep.
