SFDS Teams Advance In Playoffs

The CYO Boys Basketball playoffs continued this past weekend. SFDS Pee Wee Blue improved its CYO record to 16-0 and advanced to the Diocesan quarterfinals with a 31-26 victory this past Saturday over Our Lady Angelus.

SFDS jumped out to a quick four point lead and never gave it up in a close fought battle. Danny Endall had a strong first quarter scoring four points while Ian Byrne did a great job distributing the ball and running the point.

Dillon Ostrander had an outstanding first half scoring nine of his thirteen points. SFDS held a potent OLA team to five second quarter points to close out the half leading 17-13. In the second half the defense once again played outstanding and would not give up the middle to a quicker OLA offensive unit. The SFDS big men held there own against a larger front line with strong rebounding by Kyle Duffy and James Agoglia, who also poured in four points.

Down 23-17 to start the fourth quarter OLA tried to mount a comeback but SFDS went point for point to maintain its seven point lead. Kyle Cornish sealed the game with a corner shot off the glass to put the game out of reach. Corpus Christi will be their opponent this Sunday, 1:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Hope. The Pee Wee Gold also advanced with a win over St. Margaret and now plays St. Joseph on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Cathedral Prep.

The Bantam Boys were eliminated from the playoffs losing to St. Rose 48- 38. Although St. Francis led by four points at the half, early foul trouble prevented them from keeping the lead going into the fourth quarter. Jag Guidarelli played his best game of the season, scoring 14 points on drives from the high post. John Moran and Aidan Donahue were good for 9 and 8 points respectively. Timmy Connolly was the best rebounder on the court.
