Alexander J. Flanagan

Alexander J. Flanagan, a longtime Rockaway resident, died March 2.

Flanagan was born in Manhattan, New York. He was a retired NYPD detective living in Rockaway for 48 years. Flanagan served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion O’Connell Post.

Flanagan was preceded in death by his son, James.

He is survived by his wife, Julie (nee Fitzpatrick); children, Jean Bagley (Frank), Richard and Marybeth (Keith Goldberg); grandchildren, Kevin (Marybeth), Allison, Brian, James, Patrick and Alexander; and great-grandchildren, Belle and Sayer.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral mass took place at St. Francis de Sales Church, Belle Harbor. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, New York.
