Historical Views of the Rockaways

A Well Known Vaudeville Actor Buys A Home In Far Rockaway 1908
From The Rockaway Museum Commentary by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

On March 3, 1908, Corse Payton of Brooklyn, New York, a famous Vaudville actor, bought a house in Far Rockaway from Thomas O’Kane and his wife Ella. For $13,700 the house shown today in Historical Views, situated on the south side of Cornaga Avenue, between Beach 24 and Beach 25 Streets, changed owners.

Corse Payton appeared in many local events and benefit plays held in the Rockaways. He was mentioned in the old issues of The Wave, but I could never find a flyer or a likeness of Mr. Payton, just a postcard of his house in Far Rockaway on Cornaga Avenue. Can anyone out there in Waveland add to the story of Corse Payton? Send it, and Thank You!
