Joseph Green, a longtime Rockaway resident, died February 17.
Green was born in Sumter, South Carolina. He worked as a barber owning several shops. Green served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 until honorably discharged.
Green was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Holloman; brothers, Thomas, Samuel Jr., Robert and John Henry Green; and sisters, Rosealee Ross, Sadie Gary and Miriam (Dolly) Robinson.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sadie Mae; son, Joseph Green Jr.; daughters, Cynthia Johnson, Joanne Chapman and Crystal Green; sons-inlaw,
Steven Chapman and Gary Holloman; brothers, George Washington Green, and Bennie Green; sisters, Helen Eaglin, Annette Cook, Daisy Ann Vaz, and Susan Carter (Robert Carter); grandchildren, Michael, Heather, and Kory Johnson, Tarik and Stephanie Chapman, NaReea Adams, Qurana and Kareem Holloman, Christopher, Teron, and Tyrell Green; brother- inlaw, Charles Ross; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Interment took place at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
