Come and enjoy.

The next RAA general meeting will be Monday, March12, at 7:39 p.m. in sTudio 7 gallery.

It will feature guests Amanda Francin, Dan Gua-rino and Sophia Skeans discussing their “magical,” says Skeans, RAA trip through Ireland last summer.

With pictures, words and music the trio recreates their journey from Dublin to Galway with ancient art, contemporary artists, old castles, the Book of Kells, the green, green hills, Indaculture’s Irish debut, the Le Cheile Arts and Music Festival.

The instructor is Dan Guarino, author, Wave columnist and director of the RAA Writers Group.

The cost is $10 per session or $45 for all five sessions.

This five-week course will enable your child to: explore their creativity; enhance vocabulary; exercise imagination; and improve writing skills while engaged in a hands-on creative writing workshop. For more information call: RAA at 718-474-0861.

The next RAA Writers Group meeting is Sunday, March 18 in sTudio 6 gallery.

All are welcome, whether you are a writer or a lover of good writing …and enjoy seeing a piece of literature develop from its earliest creation to its fullest fruition. Creative suggestions and support are a major element of the group meetings, whether you are a beginner or have years of experience.

Calls To Artists: “Checkmate” and “Spring Into Flowers.” “Checkmate” invites artists to draw viewers into the world of drama, symmetry, surprises, majesty, maneuvers, strategy, style, substance and subtlety that is the world of chess.

Chessboards, chess pieces, power plays and even fantasy — think “Alice Through the Looking Glass” – associated with the more than 1,000-year-old game.

Open to all media including but not limited to glass work, photography, watercolor, printmaking, sculpture, video, cartoon, literary and moveable art.

Deadline for receipt of entries: April 6, 2012.

Dates: March 5- March 27, 2012. For full prospectus and entry form: www.rockawayartistsalliance.org.

“Spring Into Flowers” invites artists to … well … what more can be said? Same dates, same times, same station. Open to humans as well as to bees.

The Story of Jacob Riis and Jacob Riis Park will be the subject of the next lecture/ Power Point presentation by Rockaway historian Bernie Feuer.

The show starts at 1 p.m. in sTudio 7 gallery in the Rockaway Center for the Arts (RoCA) at Fort Tilden. Admission is free.

Feuer calls Riis America’s first photojournalist. He saw the horrid conditions in the slums and exposed them to the public in his photographs, articles and books. Feuer will show Riis’ images, discuss the creation, history from its earliest days, architecture and significance of our Riis Park.

And …as a bonus …a former VP with the initials TR (a reformer, as was Riis) may make an appearance, channeled through a certain RAA VP with the initials DG.

A veritable alphabet soup of celebrity.

Congratulations to Sekou Liam Harper for being born, and Mazel Tov and Good Show to Kalin, Kaliem and Kaz. Much love and very happy birthday to our dear Kazek. What a birthday gift!
