Aviators, Red Cross Hold Blood Drive

Before the puck drops on Saturday, March 3, the Brooklyn Aviators Hockey Club, proud second year member of the Federal Hockey League, and the American Red Cross are teaming up for a blood drive at Aviator Sports and Events Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Donating blood is a simple act that helps save lives. Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals, and the only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor.

As a special thank you for helping their neighbors, all those who come roll up a sleeve to help those in need of blood, will receive a voucher for two tickets to that night’s game against the New Jersey Outlaws, or, to one of the Aviators’ playoff games, a voucher for one free open skate and much more. The day will also feature special performances every hour by the Aviators’ own Rhythmic and Artistic Gymnastics Teams.

“The Aviators, along with the Aviator Sports and Events Center, are proud to team with yet another great organization in the American Red Cross,” said Jun Okada, Aviators Team Executive. “This season alone, we have collected hundreds of toys and canned goods to help the borough of Brooklyn and New York City. We hope to continue the trend and to collect as many units of blood as we can during our blood drive.”

“In honor of March being Red Cross Month, the American Red Cross is asking volunteer blood donors to give blood and help save lives in the communities we serve,” said Donna M. Morrissey, director of Communications, Red Cross Northeast Division. “This March we hope that Aviators fans will join us in celebrating Red Cross Month and help make a difference in your community by donating blood.”

The Red Cross blood drive will take place in the Upstairs Mezzanine of the Events Center prior to the game. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1- 800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by visiting redcrossblood.org.

Walk-ins are also welcome! During the month of March, all presenting donors will also be entered in a daily drawing to win a $50 Red Cross Reward. Winners can use this incentive to take a Health and Safety course, show their Red Cross pride by purchasing a branded item from the Red Cross Store, or choose to make a donation back to the Red Cross.

About the American Red Cross: The American Red Cross has been a primary supplier of lifesaving blood products in the United States for more than 50 years. The Red Cross Blood Services - Northeast Division must distribute approximately 3,000 units of blood each day just to meet the basic needs of area patients.

Eligible volunteer blood donors are asked to please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to find a blood drive and to make appointments. Individuals who are 17-years-of-age (16 with parental permission in New York State), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to give blood. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate.
