Shot During Attempted Robbery

By Nicholas Briano

A Far Rockaway man was shot while defending his home from an attempted burglary last week, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

The 26-year-old victim was sitting in his Beach 13 Street home in the early afternoon on January 25 when he left the living room to use the bathroom. Upon returning he found three men inside his house, one of whom pulled a gun on him.

Anthony Maldonado, 17, allegedly screamed to the victim, “Give it up!” while Christopher McQueen, 19, and another unidentified suspect began searching the home for items to steal. In defense of his property, the victim allegedly tried to wrestle the pistol from Maldonado’s hands when he was shot in the buttocks.

According to Brown’s office, the suspects fled from the scene but were arrested the following day. Both McQueen and Maldonado were charged with first degree assault, burglary, and attempted robbery. They were also charged with seconddegree criminal possession of a weapon. Bail was set at $250,000.
