Paying Our Fair Share

Dear Editor,

I have started to receive the documents that I need to file my 2011 Federal Income Tax. I am one of the 53 percent of Americans that pay their fair share while 47 percent of residents in this country pay no income tax but get all the benefits and protection of living in our great Country.

This 47 percent contribute nothing to keep our Country going. This 47 percent include all the people involved in criminal activities, people involved in the underground economy and people who take no responsibility for their actions.

It is ridiculous when Patrick Cox of Tax Masters calls people who haven’t filed their required income tax in years, good people in his advertisements. This is a slap in the face to the 53 percent of the people who pay their required income taxes and pay them on time.

This other day there was a report in the Washington Post that federal government workers owe one billion dollars in federal income tax for 2010 which they did not pay. It’s ridiculous that our government cannot get their own employees to pay their required taxes.

Our Country is in a debit crisis right now and President Obama says everyone should pay his or her fair share and pitch in.

This 47 percent should also pay their fair share and pitch in.

What we should do is have a small consumption fee, say 3 percent, on everything we purchase so that everybody in our country pays something towards the running of our great Country.

This money should go into a separate account and be used only for the paying down of our national debt.

The other day there was an article in the paper about quarterback Tom Brady, whose only claim to fame is that he slings a football, and his model, whose claim to fame is she was born good-looking, bought a ridiculously expensive mansion, when other people are being thrown out of their homes by the banks.

Also other celebrities, who buy ridiculous expensive things, while most people are just trying to survive, should be paying these Consumption Fees.

Criminal elements who pay no taxes but buy expensive homes, cars and trinkets and pay no taxes, and the other people who just take and make no contribution to society are other groups that do not pay their fair share. These are some of the perfect reasons for having a Consumption Fee.

We also have a problem with Social Security and Medicare. Yet people only pay these taxes up to approximately $106,000 of wages.

Everyone should be paying his or her fair share and pitching in by paying Social Security taxes and Medicare fees on all their wages including the giant bonus that some people receive. This would help to make our Social Security and Medi-care system solvent and take care of our seniors who have worked hard all their lives and need these programs to survive.

This is our great Country and as our President says, we all have to pitch in and do the fair thing for our Country to survive.
