MTA Bus Service Change

The following letter was sent to the president of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Dear Editor,

Effective January 8, 2012, the Q21 Bus that serviced the west end of Rockaway Beach and Rockaway Park has now been re-routed to the east end of the Rockaway Peninsula, which I have no objection to.

I would like to ask that since this is the bus that my family and other residents of West Cross Bay Boulevard (near the Veterans Memorial Bridge), have used in the past four years to commute, could the Q53 now be rerouted to stop at the bus stop locations that were previously serviced by the Q21 along Rockaway Beach Boulevard?

Presently the Q53 leaves Beach 116th Street, traveling west along Beach Channel Drive to Beach 108th Street where it shifts to Rockaway Beach Boulevard. It would be a great convenience if the Q53 could travel along Rockaway Beach Boulevard from Beach 116th Street to service the commuters who used the Q21 in the past.

If you look at the previous routes for the Q21, you will see that the additional stops that I am asking for coverage on would only be four locations:

East Bound: Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 115 Street. Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 111 Street.

West Bound: Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 110 Street. Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 113 Street.

You may also consider moving the location of the east bound bus stop from between Beach 112-11th Streets one block further east between Beach 111th and 110th Street where the Boulevard is wider, permitting the riders to board the buses while traffic can run smoothly.

I wish to thank you for considering my request and granting it if you agree.
