Three-Year-Old Is Hammels DOA
At press time, detectives from the 100 Precinct in Rockaway Park were awaiting a determination of the cause of death for a three-year-old girl who was found dead inside her family’s Hammel Houses apartment on January 27.
Police officers responding to a call of a sick child at about 1:15 on Friday afternoon found the little girl unconscious and unresponsive.
She was transported to the Peninsula Hospital Center, where she was declared dead on arrival. Hospital officials declined to comment on the case, quoting federal privacy rules.
The body was then transported to the office of the city’s chief medical examiner in Manhattan for an autopsy.
On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the ME told The Wave that the case was still pending further investigation and that no cause of death had yet been determined.
Officials said that there did not appear to be any trauma on he body and that nobody has been charged in connection with the death.
A spokesperson for the ME added that the body had not yet been claimed by a parent, eventhough her office has reached out to the family.
