Phillip Goldfeder Thanks Governor Andrew Cuomo

Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder sent a letter thanking Governor Cuomo for including a proposal in his 2012-2013 Executive Budget to reinstate the Cross Bay Bridge discount for residents of Broad Channel and Rockaway. Currently, it is the only intra-borough bridge toll in New York City.

“Eliminating this toll has been one of my top priorities, even before I took Assembly office,” Goldfeder said. “The toll places an unfair burden on hardworking families, small businesses and the local economy.”

In the letter, Goldfeder thanked the governor for hearing the concerns of the hardworking families and small-business owners of Broad Channel and Rockaway in such a commendable way and for taking a positive step in lifting this financial burden from the backs of so many members of the community.

“I won’t stop until the toll is completely eliminated,” Goldfeder said. “But I welcome the governor’s inclusion of the rebate program in his Executive Budget proposal as the first step toward our goal of completely eliminating the toll so that families won’t have to pay to go back and forth between work and school or while running daily errands.”

Previously, Goldfeder sent a letter to MTA President Joseph Lhota asking that the MTA reinstate the full residency discount and shortly after, he followed up with a petition containing 2,000 signatures in support of the toll’s elimination. Additionally, Goldfeder introduced legislation in the Assembly that would eliminate the burdensome Cross Bay Bridge toll permanently (A.9000).
