Let’s Be Safer In 2012

Dear Editor,

Why is it acceptable for taxi drivers to pick up passengers with children and not have car seats? In our personal cars we’re required to have them when riding with small children or else we risk getting fined. But I’ve seen cabs speeding by with children in the back seat wearing no seatbelts.

I’ve also seen passengers holding their kids on their laps, and I’m beginning to wonder if cab drivers get a free pass.

Cabs should be required to keep at least one car seat in their trunk. We’re already making cabs handicap accessible, so let’s make cabs safer and more convenient for our children, too.
