Stringer Tours Goldfeder’s District
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer visited the district of Assemblyman Phillip Goldfeder on January 26. They stopped at two yeshivas in Far Rockaway. At Bnos Bais Yaakov on Beach 9 Street, the head of the girls school, Rabbi Hiller, Stringer and others stopped in on teachers and students. At Yeshiva Darchei Torah on Beach 17 Street, we see Goldfeder, Rabbi Shimon Dachs (the principal), Ezra Freidlander and Stringer as they join students in the massive library at the boys school. When asked if the visit had anything to do with a run for mayor, Stringer said it was about “figuring out [how to] work collaboratively on issues.” He added that the other borough presidents and he “recognize that when we all get together on an issue it really helps our constituents collaboratively.” Last week Stringer released a report called “Rooftop Revolution,” which advocated putting solar panels on the roofs of schools to expand renewable energy and the green economy. During a discussion with school leaders, Stringer did say that Yeshiva Darchei Torah would be a perfect test case for such a project. The politicians also stopped at the Howard Beach Senior Center.
