The Rockaway Youth Task Force hosted its second Open Mic event on January 27 at the Far Rockaway Library, continuing its sponsorship of events for the young people of the peninsula. According to Milan Taylor, the founder and president of RYTF, the event “literally packed the library.”

It was also the first Open Mic event to be co-hosted by MakeMyMotherProud, which is run by Lakia Echols.

That same evening RYTF hosted another in its series of Occupy Youth Town Hall meetings with Donovan Richards at the Redfern Houses Community Center.

“Many of the issues spoke[n] about at the last meeting were mentioned again, lack of youth activities and gang violence,” added Taylor.

“iGrind,” a local music production team, filmed the meeting and posted it to YouTube. Councilman James Sanders and representatives from his office, as well as members of Operation SNUG also attended the meeting. The link for the YouTube video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ay14 wdvGxcs
