Beach Clubs Remain Open For 2012
News Events/Travel Editor/Host • WNYX - TV Morning News • 12:00 noon on UHF Chs. 35 & 26 Monday - Friday

The Breezy Point Surf Club and the Silver Gull Beach Clubs will be open for business this coming summer season according to Tom Mulligan, manager, who informed me when I ran into him at Kennedy’s Restaurant. He did say, though, that they were still in negotiations as to whether the current managers will still be in charge. Let’s hope they will be. They have done a fantastic job of giving sun, surf and swim lovers a happy, fun-filled, peaceful time at the beach. The Clubs have been in existence longer than I …….. and that’s a long time! May they remain open and functional many more years than I?

More than 300 attended the Celebration of Awards dinner for the founders of the Sons and Daughters of America held at Russo’s on the Bay according to my cousin, Patricia Crowley, who was so proud when her husband Robert Crowley received his award for his good works. He wasn’t alone. Other worthy recipients were: Brian Quinn, Thomas McCarthy and Jack Moran. Congratulations on a job well done.

Thanks also should be extended to those who sat among them who contributed their time and efforts to help this worthwhile mission: John Nicsa and wife, Lisa; Rita 50/50 Gibson; Cathy Dady; Joey and Muffin Biessel, Charlie and Santa Cannon. They all had a great time participating in the Chinese Auction, socializing, devouring delicious cuisine and dancing non-stop. Don’t miss this event next year.

Big Congratulations to Johnny Crowley and wife, Sheila, on the birth of their first grandson by son Frank and his wife. They live in Florida and John’s mother, Gladys Crowley, is thrilled to be a first Great-grandmother.

Travel: You may want to visit Slovenia, which is a beautiful, small country, two and a half hours from Venice. It borders Italy, Austria, Croatia and the Adriatic Sea. It is the greenest part of the world and boasts beaches, snow capped Alps mountains, palaces and castles. Lots to do and see in a beautiful countryside.

Ecuador, on the other hand, is located in northwest South America and is known for its proximity to the Galapagos Islands which have the best exotic sea life in the world. If you love sea diving, this is the place for you.

Maybe you are not interested in far off lands and would just like to remain in the Good Ol’ USA. Well, North Carolina will give you a warm welcome with their ties to the Civil Rights movement and the education of African Americans. You can learn more at Greensboro Civil Rights Center and Museum. For science lovers there is no better place than the Natural Science Center.

Get eye to eye with tigers, monkeys and more at the Discovery Zoological Park. The Omni Sphere Theater features 3-D shows on a 40-foot dome. Past shows: Sea Monsters and Solar System. Also, Bodies Revealed and Titanic. Lots and lots of FREE things to do. Film sites and star hangouts. Replace your Crystal, China and Silver in Greensboro. You can taste the Moonshine margarita and try rabbit and luscious crab cakes. A French Renaissance chateau greets a million guests annually. Something to see and do to keep your intellect spiraling throughout your USA State adventure in North Carolina.

And…Away We Go!!!
