Breezy Point Coach Leads Resurgent McClancy On The Basketball Court
The varsity boys basketball team at Monsignor McClancy, coached by Don Kent, a summer resident of Breezy Point, has been playing good basketball, as of late in the CHSAA. The Crusaders have won four of their last five games played this season. McClancy defeated West Windsor H.S. of New Jersey, 80- 53, in the consolation game of the Monsignor Kelly Christmas Classic at Immaculate High School in Somerville, New Jersey on Saturday, January 5.
The Crusaders defeated St. Edmund Prep, 57-56, in the last 1.3 seconds on a jump shot by junior forward Kevin Wilkins. McClancy climbed back from a first half deficit in the second half before suffering a 59-48 loss to Bishop Ford on January 13.
The Crusaders came back on January 16 to defeat Salesian, 59-46, as senior Brian Berrios led with 23 points and Austin John Huggins contributed with 18 points. Before a packed gymnasium at McClancy, the Crusaders defeated neighborhood rival St. John’s Prep, 66- 53. Berrios once again led the way with 25 points, including his conversion of 11 out of 13 free throws from the foul line. Huggins had 19 points and Chris Ramos added 13 points to help McClancy improve to a 9-8 record overall and 3-3 within the CHSAA ‘A’ Division.
