Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Let us add this date to our calendars, September 9, 2012. It’s Grandparent’s Day. I tell you to add it because unfortunately we are rarely recognized, so come calendars don’t have it printed.
Thanks St. John’s Episcopal Hospital and the London French Cleaners at 86-15 Rockaway Beach Boulevard for having it on theirs.
Life is short, do something special for your grandparents, appreciate them and learn from them.
Love and appreciate where they’ve been and how long they have come. The roads they had to walk and the hills they had to climb.
Show appreciation to those grandparents who are missing their second and third generations.
Show appreciation to those grandparents who are there when your own parents were not.
Show appreciation to those grandparents who fought for their grandchildren, instead of losing them to the system, changing their lives and putting their retirement plans on hold.
Admire their strength, their courage to endure any obstacles that may come their way.
Finally, let’s show our grandparents the same unconditional love they show us. No matter what we say, what we do, how we act, how we may get out of line, grandparents still love you no matter what.
Remember life is short; don’t take advantage of the time you are granted. I remember getting tired of my grandma talking on and on and on while on the phone. I used to make up excuses to get off. Now, I see I lost valuable time. What I wouldn’t give to hear her go on and on and on and on right now.
