The Rockaway Teen Challenge sixweek basketball exhibition tournament concluded Friday, December 22, with first place victories going to the St. Rose of Lima 13 and under team, coached by Mark Butigian, and the 16 and under Hammels team, coached by Rob Volkens.

After two gritty, hard fought battles, Hammels 13 and under team, coached by Center Director Vinny Braxton, and Team Deuce’s 16 and under, coached by Isaac Parsee, won second place trophies.

Special recognition to Ray Diaz and the NYC Housing Authority, Victor and Caesar of V&C Transportation, all coach mentors, and the 100 and 101 Precincts, for their unwavering commitment to Rockaway youth.

As 2012 has arrived, a winter 19 and under medaling tournament is currently being planned for. Challenge organizers are excited about partnerships with Charles and Randy Fisher of the Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council (HHSYC), and the Queens District Attorney office. Stay tuned for coming event announcements.
