Praise for Seaside Center

Dear Editor,

Say I sent an article in November regarding what was formerly Hammels Senior Center for over 45 years on Beach 90 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.

A nice place to meet friends and socialize or just sit and talk. Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a breakfast and lunch menu. Swell entertainment plus bingo, cards, dominos line, dances and yoga every day.

So come one, come all! I worked in the kitchen as assistant cook to Herman Goldman and our helpers were Lily Davis, Goldy Goldfarb and Josie Markpolo. Also our director was Irving Oppmonn, now retired and living in Texas. Our office staff was Janet Brady and Ivan Nickelson.

It is funded by The Irish Federation and Department for the Aging. Plus, was once Gilroy’s Bar. I was paid a check of $48.00 by the city and I retired when I was 75, after 22 years of service – from 1975 to 1997. Now age 90 and still a member.
