Novas Runners Participate At Colgate Games

The second week of Colgate Women’s Games was held from Thursday, December 29 to Saturday, December 31 at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

Five girls and a woman from Rockaway’s track and field club, NY Novas, took part in the track meets. Ledgm Washington (7) raced in 55 meter-dash, Jade Smith (8), Keeaira Saunders (8), and Iyana Lee (10) competed in 55 meter-dash and 200 meter-dash, Novas’ coach, Mitsuko Washington (43), also participated in the meets with 1500 meter run.

The Colgate Women’s Games is the nation’s largest amateur track series open to all girls from elementary school through college. Competitors participate in preliminary meets and semi-finals over five weekends throughout January. Finalists compete for trophies and educational grants-in-aid from Colgate Palmolive Company at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The Colgate Games continues this Friday, January 6 to Sunday January 8. Anyone interested in joining NY Novas Track and Field Club should contact Coach Mitsuko (Mimi) at 516-849-1028.
