Robert Barr, 90, a 55-year Broad Channel resident, died December 29.
Barr was born on March 10, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York. He was a carpenter and honorably discharged from the US Army during World War II. Barr was a member of Elder Christ Presbyterian Church by the Sea, past president of Rockaway Fisherman’s and Boatmen’s Association, founding member of Back House Anglers and original member of Broad Channel Monday Night Men’s Bowling League.
Barr was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Ann Barr; father, John Barr; and brother, John Barr.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Viola Barr; sons, Robert (Ann), George (Mary) and Arthur; daughter, Barbara (Vincent Brando); eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hillebrand Funeral Home, Broad Channel. Disposition took place at Fresh Pond Crematory, Middle Village, New York.
