Muni-Meters Do Not Work

Dear Editor,

As a business owner and shopper on Beach 116 Street, I know I am not the only one who is frustrated by the Muni-Meters and their lack of operation on a daily basis.

Either they takes the coins and you get no receipt, or they don’t accept the coins and you lose them, or the machine takes ‘cards only’ and then still don’t work. I have called several times over the last three weeks to report the various problems with the various meters.

The DOT has 20 days to make the repair from the time you call 311 to report the meters inoperable. What do we do in the meantime? If the weather is inclement, you freeze or get soaking wet while you go from one Muni-Meter to the other to try and buy your time.

If you are a handicapped driver, the walk to and from the meter and back to the car is a hardship. What can we do? Who can help us? This must be looked into or everyone on the peninsula will be taking their business elsewhere. Bring back the single, freestanding meters!!
