Hundreds Hit Chilly Surf For New Year’s Day Dip

More than 300 locals hit the chilly surf at Beach 146 Street precisely at noon on New Year’s Day for the annual Polar Bear Plunge. Since the air temperature was at 53 degrees, there were many more children participating this year. Pictured, local attorney and activist Joe Mure leads this year’s charge with a few of his friends. For more photos of New Year’s Day activities around the peninsula, see pages 16, 20, 22 and 62.
