A group of 85 members of the American Littoral Society, NYC Audubon, NYC Sierra Club, and the general public hiked along the beach at Fort Tilden for the 30th consecutive year. “This was our best turnout and nicest weather,“ said Don Riepe, the Society’s Northeast

Chapter Director. “Once again at noon we signaled across the harbor to another Littoral group at Sandy Hook; and once again failed to contact them despite the use of mirrors, shouting and waving.” After hiking the beach the group climbed up to the hawk watch platform on top of Battery Harris East to enjoy a great view of the NYC Harbor and Atlantic Ocean. They then proceeded to the Rockaway Artist Alliance Gallery for some coffee, cake and champagne to celebrate the New Year!
