Chili Cook-Off Fires Up January 13th

Pictures from last year’s Chili Cook-Off. Pictures from last year’s Chili Cook-Off. The 100 Precinct Community Council Youth Committee will be hosting the 3rd Annual “Chili Cook Off” on January 13 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus located at 333 Beach 90 Street.

Tickets for the event, proceeds from which sponsor youth committee activities, are just $10 in advance for all the chili you can eat, soda, coffee and homebaked cupcakes. Tickets can be purchased at Brown’s Hardware located on Beach 116 Street. Entries are donated by various local businesses, restaurants, volunteers and even firefighters.

The proceeds will be shared equally by the Knights of Columbus and the Council Youth Committee, which enables the Youth Committee to continue their “Chess in School” and six-week Summer Volleyball on the beach, open to all Rockaway youth.

This year the committee will have four different judges from the Rockaway community: Jean Daouphars, retired Harbor Patrol police officer and a member of the Youth Committee; Jeanne Dupont, executive director of the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance; FDNY Lt. William Murray; and Steve Stathis, president of the Graybeards. Entries to the cook-off are still open for anyone looking to participate with a chili entry. Interested parties should contact Linda Ruscillo at 718-474-6145.
