Eleanor King, a resident of Belle Harbor for 39 years, died December 23.
King was born in Brooklyn. She was a graduate of Manual Training High School and worked as an executive secretary on Wall Street until starting a family with her husband Jack. Eleanor and Jack moved their family to Rockaway in 1972. As a homemaker, she raised their three children and fostered two others. In the late 1970’s, Eleanor began working with senior citizens at the Belle Harbor Home for the Aged. Later she helped establish the St. Francis de Sales parish ministry that served older neighbors who have health problems and/or were home bound. She was also the quiet voice behind her husband’s work in the community, editing correspondence, producing newsletters and helping with speeches.
She is survived by three children and nine grandchildren - three of whom live in Rockaway, In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in King’s name to the Disabled American Veterans or the Wounded Warrior program.
