Bert Anthony Metzger
Bert Anthony Metzger, 88, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died December 23.
Metzger was born in Rockaway Beach on December 7, 1923. He was born in Rockaway Beach Hospital. He grew up, married, worked and raised his family in Edgemere until 1970 when he relocated in retirement to Rockaway Park. He was a mailman for the USPS. He served in the US Army as a medic during World War II while stationed in India, Burma and China. Metzger as a lifelong member of First Congregational Church of Rockaway Beach, an American Legion Post #272 lifetime member and past Commander from 1974 to 1975 and a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 128 for 20 years.
Metzger was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Metzger; sons, Richard and James Metzger; sister, Peggy Ayers; and granddaughters, Kim End and Renee Metzger.
He is survived by wife, Lucy Metzger; daughter, Nancy Lee; son, William Metzger; five grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren.

Sharon Allison Paul, a longtime Rockaway resident, died December 23.
Paul was born in Trinidad. She is survived by her son, Chaka Paul; daughter, Fasimba Paul; brothers, Keith and Hayden Clarke; sisters, Pamela Scarborough, Gail Victor and Michelle Clarke Dickerson; and grandson, Lahnel Jonathan Sexton.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Rockaway Beach. A funeral will take place at Macedonia Baptist Church in Arverne on Friday, December 30, at 11 a.m.
